Questions, answered.
The most common things people ask about matchmaking, ratings, clubs, and cost splitting. If something isn't here, drop us a line.
What is Shuttle Match?
Shuttle Match is a free web app for organizing badminton sessions. It automatically generates balanced doubles and singles matches, tracks player ratings using the Glicko-2 system, manages club memberships, and splits court costs — all from your phone or computer.
Is Shuttle Match free?
Yes, Shuttle Match is free forever for basic use. There are no trial periods, no credit card required, and the core matchmaking / scoring / rating features are available to everyone. We may add premium extras later, but the essentials stay free.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Shuttle Match works directly in your browser on any device — phone, tablet, or computer. You can also add it to your home screen for a native app-like experience (it's a Progressive Web App).
How do I sign up?
Just sign in with your Google account — that's it. No separate registration form or password to remember.
How does the matchmaking work?
When you start a session, you select the players, format (doubles or singles), number of courts, and a matchmaking algorithm. The app then generates a full schedule of matches with balanced teams and fair rotation. If there are more players than court slots, it automatically handles bench rotation so everyone gets equal playing time.
What matchmaking modes are available?
There are 6 modes: Round Robin (everyone plays everyone), Competitive (MMR-balanced teams), Skill-Based (similar-level opponents), High-Low Pairs (stronger paired with weaker), Social Mix (maximum variety), and Random (completely random pairings).
Can I use it for singles matches?
Yes. When creating a session, you can choose between doubles and singles format. The matchmaking algorithms work for both, and the minimum is just 2 players.
How many courts does it support?
You can set up sessions with up to 10 courts. The algorithm automatically manages player rotation across all courts, ensuring fair distribution of playing time.
What is Glicko-2 and how does the rating system work?
Glicko-2 is a rating system originally developed for chess, now used widely in competitive gaming and esports. Each player gets an MMR (matchmaking rating) number that goes up when they win and down when they lose. The system also tracks rating uncertainty — new players' ratings adjust faster, while established players' ratings are more stable. Ratings are calculated per club, so your rating in one club is independent of another.
When do ratings update?
Ratings update automatically at the end of each session after all match scores are entered. You can see rating changes in the session recap and on each player's profile page.
How do I create a club?
Go to the Clubs page and tap 'Create Club'. Give it a name and you're done. You'll get an invite link to share with your group.
Can I have multiple clubs?
Yes. You can create and join as many clubs as you like. Each club has its own leaderboard, session history, and player ratings. This is useful if you play with different groups on different days.
How do players join my club?
Share your club's invite link (available on the club page). Players click the link and are added to your club instantly. They can sign in with Google to save their profile and track stats.
How does cost splitting work?
After a session, the organizer can add expenses (court rental, shuttlecocks, etc.) to the session's bill. The app calculates each player's share automatically and generates a shareable payment link. Players can view their share and upload a payment slip as proof.
Can players pay through the app?
Shuttle Match doesn't process payments directly. Instead, it calculates the split and provides a shareable link where players can see their share and upload a photo of their payment slip (e.g. bank transfer screenshot). The organizer can then verify each payment.
Does it work offline?
Shuttle Match is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that can be installed on your home screen. While core features require an internet connection to sync data, the app loads quickly and works well on slow connections.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your data is stored securely and we don't sell personal information to third parties. Check our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I share session results publicly?
Yes. Sessions and payment links have shareable public URLs that anyone can view — even without a Shuttle Match account. This makes it easy to share results on your group chat.
